Heroin and cash seized

National News: The sensitive border areas of Northeast India have once again witnessed a decisive war against drugs. A highly confidential and well-planned operation was carried out between June 5 and 7 in the Churachandpur district of Manipur, which was named 'Operation White Veil.' The joint operation was carried out with the combined efforts of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Customs, Assam Rifles, and Manipur Police.

This operation was not only successful in seizing a large quantity of drugs, but it has also provided a turning point in breaking the back of the border smuggling network.

Largest Heroin Seizure Yet: Global Drug Network Cracked Open

The officials recovered a total of 7,755.75 grams of heroin, whose estimated price in the international market is Rs 54.29 crore. Along with this, 6,736 grams of opium were also found, whose estimated value is estimated to be around Rs 87.57 lakh. The scale of the seizure suggests that this is not just a local smuggling case but part of an organized international network.

Cash, walkie-talkies and vehicles also recovered; five arrested

Along with the drugs, cash worth ₹35.63 lakh, two high-frequency walkie-talkies, and a Maruti Eco van have also been seized. All these things were being used in the drug supply chain. During the operation, five suspected smugglers have been arrested, who have been booked under the NDPS Act, 1985.

Why is Manipur a hotspot for smuggling?

Manipur's geographical location—especially its border with Myanmar—makes it an ideal route for drug smuggling. The area of Myanmar, Laos, and Thailand, notoriously known as the 'Golden Triangle,' is a major heroin production center in the world. Areas like Moreh in Manipur have become gateways for this illegal trade.

Operation White Veil: Not just seizure, but also a message

This operation is not only a strong blow to smuggling, but it is also proof of the intention of the government and security agencies that now the drug trade will not be tolerated at any cost. Officials say that plans are being made to carry out the operation in several more phases so that the root of the smuggling network can be reached.

The security equation is changing in the Northeast

'Operation White Veil' is a sign that India is no longer just focused on catching drugs but is working on a strategy to dismantle the entire system behind it. This campaign paves the way for continued enforcement efforts while delivering a stern warning to smugglers.
